The Bretagne – Pays de la Loire High-Speed Line (LGV) project is an extension of the LGV Atlantique between Paris and Le Mans, opened in September 1989. Eiffage Rail Express (ERE) has been awarded the partnership contract by SNCF Réseau (formerly RFF) to build the new line between Rennes and Le Mans.
The project involves civil engineering work on 213 km of the LGV Bretagne Pays de Loire between Le Mans and Rennes, including the construction of 2 maintenance bases, the installation of 2 electrical traction substations (25000VDC) and signaling devices (ETCS, TVM 300, ERTMS1 and ERTMS 2).
The project includes the realization of:
- 26 million m3 of excavated material,
- 13 viaducts,
- 217 overpasses and underpasses,
- 5 covered trenches,
- 2 million tonnes of ballast.
Studies for the project began in May 2011 and were completed in October 2012. Work began in June 2012 and was completed in 2017. The LGV BPL was put into service on July 02, 2017. The civil engineering works required environmental studies. This work was carried out in consultation with the French government’s watercourse management and environmental protection departments.
