Cycling facilities in ParisDesign and construction management
Le projet
The success of cycling in Paris, accelerated by the health crisis, has prompted City Hall to seek to perpetuate the 52 km of temporary cycling facilities (the “coronapistes”) created after the spring 2020 containment. In addition to these pre-existing facilities, 130 km of new cycle paths will be built as part of the 2021-2026 Bicycle Plan. The main aim of bicycle development projects is to create the conditions for increasing cycling use. Their priority is therefore to provide a cycling infrastructure that can address and convince people who don’t yet cycle to choose this mode.
The projects are part of the development of Parisian public spaces, which meet four general objectives:
- Rebalance the use of public space in favor of pedestrians, bicycles, green spaces and public transport.
- Meet the expectations of users and future users, notably through innovative approaches to involving the public in the design and implementation of the project.
- Responding to the ecological imperative by treating spaces (summer comfort, waterproofing, source of materials, etc.) and limiting demolition.
- Optimize work schedules and costs

Nos missions
- Preliminary studies (EP)
- Pre-project studies (AVP)
- Project studies (PRO)
- Design approval (Visa)
- Construction Management (DET)
- Assistance with Acceptance Operations (AOR)
- Organization, Control and Coordination (OPC) / Study phase
- Organization, Control and Coordination (OPC) / Construction phase
The major difficulty lies in the pace of the assignment, which is divided into several sub-projects, each costing between €1 and €5 million, for which studies have to be carried out to a (very) tight schedule, followed by preparation and supervision of the worksites. In the summer of 2022, for example, the group was working on 7 areas under study, while at the same time monitoring 5 construction sites. An organization that leaves little room for the unexpected!
