A43 – Autoroute de la MaurienneDesign and construction management

Lieu : France

Client : Société Française du Tunnel Routier du Fréjus (French Fréjus Road Tunnel Company)

Date : 1992 - 2000

Le projet

The A43 project involved building a 63.5 km section of freeway in the Maurienne valley, between :

  • the Montméliant – Alberville motorway section (A43/A430),
  • and the Fréjus Road Tunnel.

The section (34.5 km) built under SETEC’s supervision is the upper section of the Maurienne freeway, located in a particularly difficult mountainous area with many complex constraints:

  • hydraulic constraints (flooding of the Arc and mudflows from tributary torrents),
  • geological and geotechnical constraints (slope stability, boulder falls, etc.),
  • urbanization of the valley,
  • numerous interferences with existing structures: trunk roads, railroad lines, EHV power lines, hydroelectric reservoirs and tunnels,

This section includes :

  • 2 3-lane tunnels, 3,700 m and 360 m long,
  • 37 engineering structures, including 19 viaducts over 100 m long,
  • 2 full diffusers and 2 half diffusers,
  • 20 km of national (RN6), departmental and communal road restoration.

Nos missions

The project owner, SFTRF (Société Française du Tunnel Routier du Fréjus), has awarded SETEC a main project management contract for the structures and equipment in the upper section of the project, including :

    • a study mission including the establishment of :
      • preliminary motorway project files (APA),
      • preliminary and pre-project design files for non-standard engineering structures (EPOA and APOA),
      • files relating to road restorations,
      • tender documents (DCE),
      • tender analysis reports,
      • market files,
    • a works supervision mission focusing in particular on :
      • general supervision of works and contractors’ working drawings,
      • acceptance and settlement of work,
      • drawing up and handing over, at the end of the project, the “dossier des ouvrages exécutés”,
  • additional tasks relating to data collection, prevention of natural and industrial hazards, network relocation by concessionaires, etc.
