The creation of a deepwater port would represent a major challenge for the State of Guinea, which would thus have a tool to reconcile the productivity expected by mining operators with the imperatives of governance and regional planning. So, as part of a review to update the master plan, a site was identified as an appropriate location for such a project. This site, with its natural draught of around twenty meters, is located in the extension of the mouth of the Rio Nunez, where the country’s main bauxite production is concentrated today. The maritime site could be served by a jetty some 8km long.
