The Seine-Nord Europe canal involves the construction of a 107-kilometer river infrastructure between the Oise and Dunkerque-Escaut canals.
The canal is a missing link in the large-gauge river link between the Seine basin and the basin of northern France, and beyond to the North European river network. Located on the North Sea-Mediterranean Corridor, the canal is the central link in the Seine-Escaut European priority project.
Connected to the European river network and to ports, as well as to rail and road networks, the CSNE is a vector of growth for France, from local to international levels. The book includes :
- construction of a Vb-gauge canal between Compiègne and Aubencheul-au-Bac,
- the construction of several transshipment docks
- prefiguration (quays and earthworks) of 4 multimodal platforms for various activities (logistics, industrial, tourism, etc.)
- the construction of 6 locks,
- a 1.3 km canal bridge
- a 14 million m3 water reservoir.
In addition, the project is taking place within the framework of a sustainable development procedure known as “Grand chantier”, which includes a certain number of actions in terms of employment and economic development within the region.
